In her recent interview for NYLON magazine, Tess Holliday opened up about a lot of things, among which is her coming out as pansexual and her decision to get an abortion. The photoshoot took place in Mexico and Tess absolutely slayed it!

For those who might not know, Tess Holliday is an American plus-size model, a makeup artist, and a social media influencer who has almost 2 million followers on Instagram and started one of the most frequently used hashtags of all times – #EffYourBeautyStandards. She’s been on the cover of huge magazines like Cosmopolitan, People Magazine, and Cosmo.

Reflecting on her sexuality, the model shared a story of when she said it out loud for the first time. She was at a pool bar, and a man came up to her asking “Are you bi?”. To which she responded that she’s been thinking about her relationship to her own queerness, and she thought that the word pansexual spoke to her more than bisexual did (but it turns out the man was asking if she “was buying?”)
In case you are wondering, “pansexual” is used to refer to a person who is attracted to people no matter what their gender or sex.

The model admits that coming out as pansexual has made a lot of things in her life become clear. Tess now believes that this recent realization will allow her to connect with other people on a more intimate level. And she couldn’t be more happy about it.

Being happily married to her husband Nick Holliday and having 2 kids, Tess is planning on remaining in a monogamous relationship. She just says that it’s just nice to be comfortable with your own sexuality and gender identity.

Tess Holliday has long been considered a controversial model. Many brands would send her free clothes but still wouldn’t openly work with her. She’s being called controversial for having an abortion when she was happily married and obviously able to financially support her child; or for being comfortable with her own body and always speaking her mind.

This is what makes us all angry, not just Tess Holliday. Why ones have the need to tell women what to do? That there’s only one right way to be a woman. Women have the right to take care of themselves however they want to, and to define their own future.

Holliday has always been supporting planned parenthood. She didn’t have sex education growing up, and the town she grew up in had the highest rate of teenage pregnancy. This is why she believes sex education is so important. Teens must be educated on sexual health, and provided with an appropriate reproductive health care.
